Erin Coleman: Lacrimae Rerum

Tears are the physical evidence of our emotional experience. This body of work is designed around the visual language of the teardrop in typographic design and collagraph prints. By using printing plates crafted from rigid scraps of clothing to produce large teardrop prints it is as though we are looking through a giant microscope to see the trappings of our human, emotional experience. “Sunt Lacrimae Rerum”: “There are tears in things.”

Chauncey Secrist: Retrospect in Me-Flat Minor
@chaunceysecrist

Retrospect in Me-Flat Minor is an exploration of universal emotional states and experiences, through the use of self-portraiture. Secrist opens himself to the viewer in raw imagery that feels disarmingly intimate and familiar.

SARAH MAY: FRAGMENTS

When we dream, we only remember bits and pieces of the places our mind takes us to while we sleep. We slip to other worlds between dimensions and time, through blurry boundaries between reality, fantasy, and memory. This project explores the narrative of dreaming: the fragments that linger with us in our waking hours, revealing destiny and hidden paths, or the simple stories that entertain us throughout the night.

Our Beautiful Mess

Over the past 14 weeks, artist Roger Whiting of Community Arts of Utah has been conducting a weekly artist residency with Matt's Place, a day center for autistic youth. The result of the residency is an exhibition of colorful encaustic (melted wax) artworks. Roger and the young neurodivergent artists share how they see their worlds. Whiting, who is also autistic, states, “Our struggles, mistakes, and triumphs result in sometimes messy, but ultimately beautiful and unique lives.”  Project sponsored by an Integrated Arts Grant from Art Access / VSA Utah.
